A Trace Short Film

In this shot from A Trace, I was animating with two characters: the paper and the hands. This shot is the moment before the Father pops out of the paper. I had to animate quick movement on the paper, but not too quick, or else it would seem like the Father character has a mind of his mind. The Director wanted it to seem natural. The hands reacted to the paper and it is always a moving hold.

In this shot in A Trace, the Father was animated in stepped and not spline because it needed to feel snappy and paper-like. It was a learning experience to pay attention to key poses and timing of the doll's reaction to the kisses and make it feel like the Father is pulling on them.
